Being on the end of customer calls taught me about risk.
I joined Capital One as a front-line associate taking customer calls. Since then I’ve worked in Fraud and Corporate Security and along the way I’ve done a Masters in Fraud Risk Management, which Capital One funded.
Now I manage our approach to cyber security.
My experience and security background gave me the right set of skills to move into the Cyber Risk Manager role. My job is to help teams across the business understand and manage their cyber security risks. And managing security risk doesn’t mean you can’t achieve what you want to achieve. You might just need to approach it differently.
There’s no such thing as 9-5 anymore.
As much as I love my job, for me, it’s not all about the work. I have a seven-year-old son, so flexibility to get the work-life balance right is important. I take him to school every morning and my working day starts after that. I get my job done and I get results. I just don’t always do it in the office between 9am and 5pm.
