Capital One UK associates raise over £25,000 walking 100km for Rethink Mental Illness

On the 22nd - 23rd of September, associates from Capital One UK dusted off their walking boots and took on a hike of epic proportions, walking from London to Brighton in a Capital One to Coast Charity Challenge for its flagship fundraising event.

Starting at 6am at White Collar Factory, Capital One’s London office, the 43-strong team trekked over 100km across 2 days to the fabulous Brighton Palace Pier, all in aid of our charity partner Rethink Mental Illness.

Capital One has been supporting Rethink Mental Illness since 2017, and this fundraising event helped the partnership reach a new milestone, meaning Capital One has now raised over £250,000 for the charity since fundraising began.

Rethink Mental Illness aims to improve the lives of people severely affected by mental illness through its network of local groups and services, expert information and successful campaigning. Its goal is to make sure everyone severely affected by mental illness has a good quality of life.

The trek saw the team walk for over 22 hours and rack up more than 130,000 steps through the streets of London, across fields and over the South Downs, until they eventually reached the pebbled beach of Brighton.

A huge well done to the whole team! See what some of the walkers think below, along with some images and a video made by a member of the team.

"It’s been a few weeks since I took part in the 100km walk from London to Brighton. What an extreme experience this walk was, both physically and mentally. Thank you to my work team for being so blooming supportive, Charity Challenge for looking after us all for the two days and to all the awesome Capital One associates that I got to share this experience for such a worthwhile charity" - Sarah Barlow, Project Manager

“The entire weekend was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, both physically and mentally. Despite all working in different areas of the business, we carried each other through it and have built some wonderful new friendships. I’m so proud of the team and what we achieved and feel over the moon with the fundraising total so far.” - Jess Cooper, Brand Marketing Executive

"The Capital One to Coast challenge has been an experience that I will never forget! I look back at this experience with pride, even though my feet were in pain and every step took utmost effort! It’s amazing how much more you can give, even when you think you are running on empty!" - David Ancliffe, Insights Team Manager
