Senior Software Development Engineer - Services

About this role

Capital One is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join one of our backend Java teams, based in our Nottingham head office.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll work as part of a self-organised Services engineering team to design and develop software features that are delightful and vital to the lives of credit card consumers across all walks of life
  • Your scope of work is within your team owned components and supporting, appropriately sized features
  • You’ll work to achieve the goals and vision shared by Product Management and your Outcome team Leadership
  • Innovate within your team, initiative area and contribute within your technical domain

What we’re looking for

  • You’ll have a proven ability to deliver high quality applications
  • Solid programming skills with a good working knowledge of building APIs using modern OO languages such as Java, SOLID principles, SOA, HTTP and REST
  • Working collaboratively and commitment to be part of a successful team
  • Quality is important and therefore you’re happy to use approaches such as Pair Programming, TDD and BDD

What you’ll get to learn (any previous experience would be advantageous)

  • Working with the cloud/AWS and the opportunities that it brings
  • Solving real world problems and being comfortable working in a complex regulated environment

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position and is based in our Nottingham office.

We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home. 

We’re big on collaboration and connection, so you’ll be based in our office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
